A 200 year old junk drawer

Discover the hidden features and intricate interior of this antique cabinet!

One of the finest achievements of European furniture making, this cabinet is the most important product from Abraham (1711--1793) and David Roentgen's (1743--1807) workshop. A writing cabinet crowned with a chiming clock, it features finely designed marquetry panels and elaborate mechanisms that allow for doors and drawers to be opened automatically at the touch of a button. Owned by King Frederick William II, the Berlin cabinet is uniquely remarkable for its ornate decoration, mechanical complexity, and sheer size. This cabinet is from Kunstgewerbemuseum, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

Harvest Noir 2014 : Make magic Sept. 27th!

Harvest Noir Ottawa
Inspired by 20 years of secret picnics in the world's greatest cities!

Groups of friends of all ages dress creatively in black, gather en masse at a secret urban location for the picnic of a lifetime accompanied by refined music, and then dance the night away at a top venue. With a participatory fashion show, 3 dance floors, assorted flash mobs, and a strong social mission, Harvest Noir is a feast for all the senses.

Note:
MissSpelld (my pyromaniac alter ego) will be fire spinning after the picnic.
Come by and say hello!

The amazing Linda Farkas: Contact Fire Staff Routine

I really enjoy promoting fellow artists and performers, especially individuals that inspire me like this woman does. I am in complete and utter awe of Linda Farkas's grace and agility! Linda is a member of the Magma Fire Theater, located in Hungary. You can check them out on Facebook and on YouTube. What a perfect song to bring on the fall as well. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Now get off the computer and go do something creative :)

Photo Flash Back: Drop Zone Ottawa

3 years ago, I took part in the Easter Seals Drop Zone challenge.  I raised $1, 500 for the Easter Seals Foundation, dressed up as a superhero (Robin, girl version) and rappelled 16 stories down the Delta Hotel in downtown Ottawa. It was one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of my life and it took place again today in Ottawa!  Here are some photos of my downward adventures. The courageous man rappelling beside me, Joey Mitic, an ex-soldier and ex-participant on The Amazing Race Canada, lost both his legs to an IED while serving in Afghanistan. It's obvious that Joey did not let his handicap stop him from leading an active and inspiring life. This is what Easter Seals is all about, and it was an honour to participate in such a rewarding event.  Thanks again to all those who supported me and congratulations to all of this year's Easter Seals superheroes!

The man behind fashion's most memorable images (plus a contest!)

If I were to pick ONE historical photographer who could still strive in today's photo (and fashion) world, I immediately think of German-American fashion photographer Horst P. Horst.

Retro master of light, colour and beauty, his name may not be as recognized as that of Richard Avedon or Annie Leibowitz, but his images are undeniably timeless.

With the come back of pin-up and rockabily trends in the fashion world, Horst is still, to this day, my most precious source of visual reference and inspiration.  You rock, Horst!

His work is currently exhibiting at the Victoria and Albert Museum of Art & Design in London, England.

PHOTO CONTEST: WIN A TRIP TO PARIS

Simply upload your photo to Instagram with the hashtag #MyHorstPhoto for your chance to win return tickets to Paris, exclusive bespoke framing of your winning photo and other exhibition goodies.
